Who are we?

We're a community of pastors, entrepreneurs and leaders native to the Bunda district in the Mara region of Tanzania. We're on a mission to show the love of Christ and free our homeland from poverty through holistic care and education of our community members.

Mission

Our mission is to build up the lives of those in our community through education initiatives and holistic community care.

Vision

To see our community in the district of Bunda in the region of Mara rise out of poverty and illiteracy and live 100% sustainably.

Our Story

Fifteen years ago, Philipo Buluba and Tukiko Omosso traveled three kilometers from their home village of Bulamba to a nearby cluster of villages along the coast of Lake Victoria. The community members in the neighboring villages were struggling to survive. Homes were unstable and deteriorating from heavy rainfalls. People had to regularly walk eight kilometers to access clean drinking water. Children lost access to education because of the pressing need to assist with essential-to-survival household chores.

Philipo and Tukiko's hearts were stirred when they met with their neighbors. They desired, specifically, to help the children in the area receive an education. In particular, they wanted to help the many girls who were kept out of the education system due to cultural beliefs.

Philipo and Tukiko became local missionaries. They set out to help the community in whatever way possible. Roofing houses, drilling boreholes, and pulling together resources for scholarships for girls to be able to attend school. After meeting with visiting philanthropist Sam Leppänen and his wife Saara, JengoLife, an official NGO of the Tanzanian government, was born. In partnership with FIDA International and the Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania, JengoLife has been able to receive donations internationally from generous hearts across the world.

With the help of generous donations, JengoLife has helped support their local community through a wide variety of projects. We have had the opportunity to invite in outside missionaries to teach us about good practices for animal husbandry, built homes and roofs, begin a local primary school, and provide scholarships for education. Little by little, with the help of God, our community and international supporters,  we are able to touch lives and lift our community out of poverty.

Our Team

Our team is from a wide variety of backgrounds. We're pastors, educators, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, volunteers, and freelancers. What do we all have in common? Willing hearts and dedication to serve the children of God.

Pastor Philipo

Philipo & Mary Buluba

Pastor Philipo Buluba was born and raised in Tanzania. He grew up in a society inflicted by chronic and extreme poverty. Despite many obstacles, Philipo's life was touched by Christ and he is now a pastor in his community.

As a pastor, Philipo desires to shepard his community well. For him, this means reaching out in love to unbelievers with the message of Christ and practically caring for his community. He hopes to see lives improved through the power of Christ, better education opportunities, and the economic development of his community.

Together with his wife Mary and friend Sam Leppänen from Canada, Philipo established JengoLife, NGO in 2013. With tenacity, grit, and the help of others, JengoLife's primary aim is to provide local children with school facilities and resources so they can continue their education. Through education and the holistic support of families, JengoLife hopes to see the district of Bunda in the region of Mara lifted out of poverty.

Tukiko & Stella Omoso

My name is Tukiko, a husband to Stella and a father of four lovely children. Raised up by a farmer, I experienced life that I didn’t want other people to experience. I grew up struggling with my studies due to financial difficulties but also after schools, I would walk more than 5km to fetch water. Living this life; I have always wanted a better life—for myself, my family and the community around me; I hated poverty and promised myself to fight it.

Being part of JengoLife has helped me touch lives of many people, improving their living standards, helping young girls go to school but also establishing different community projects like, boreholes, water filters as well as provision of basic needs.

I am very passionate towards what JengoLife seeks to accomplish and very happy to be a participant in this life changing journey.

Sam & Saara Leppänen

Sam Leppänen and his wife Saara helped found JengoLife in 2013. Sam lived and worked with the JengoLife team for a number of years, and now supports other NGOs and businesses across Africa. In helping launch JengoLife, Sam set up a donation system to ensure legal and safe transfers to JengoLife's cause. The JengoLife team is incredibly grateful for the support given by Sam.

Currently, Sam travels frequently visiting the businesses and NGOs he has helped launch across Africa. His wife Saara also runs an online bag company, which supports the NGOs they help run. If you're interested in donating to JengoLife and would like to speak with Sam, you can contact him using one of the links below.
